Every year, more and more men are faced with a common disease - prostatitis.Until recently, it was believed that this problem arises only in people of advanced age, but over the past decades the number of very young men who have signs of inflammatory lesion of the prostate gland has increased significantly.We will try to figure out what these are the disease, what are its symptoms, methods of diagnosis, methods of effective treatment.
What is prostatitis?
Prostatitis - a disease of a prostate or prostate gland - a very common disease of the male genitourinary system.The causes of it can be both an infectious nature and caused by other factors.For example, weakening of immunity, hypothermia, sedentary lifestyle, irregular or overly saturated sex life, nervous overloads, various infections, drinking alcohol, spices and fatty foods.
The prostate gland - one of the organs of the men's reproductive system - has a size from a walnut and is at the beginning of the urethra.Its function is the development of a secret that is responsible for the viability of sperm.
As a rule, four types of prostatitis are distinguished: acute, chronic abacterial, chronic bacterial and asymptomatic chronic.The first type is the most rare and severe inflammation of the prostate gland, which occurs due to infection.It has pronounced symptoms: high temperature, fever, acute pain in the pelvis, blood in the urine, painful ejaculation and others.When identifying the disease, urgent medical care is required, often hospitalization.
The remaining forms are chronic and less pronounced symptoms, but more common and more difficult to diagnose.Signs of chronic prostatitis are: pain in the lower abdomen and back, dysuria, sexual disorders, purulent or transparent discharge from the urethra.With the asymptomatic course of the disease, there may not be any noticeable manifestations, and diagnosis is possible only according to the results of the tests.
Prostatitis in men occurs, as a rule, after 25 years, and representatives of the “strong half” who have reached 30–35 years are most at risk.With each decade, the risk of getting sick increases.After forty -five, according to statistics, the disease is exposed to almost 50% of the male, therefore, at this age, it is recommended to regularly undergo examination in order to detect prostatitis at an early stage.
Diagnostics
When contacting a medical institution, the first thing to do is to take an examination with a urologist who can either accurately diagnose the disease or prescribe additional studies.The following diagnostic methods allow to identify the presence of inflammation of the prostate gland:
- Physical examination, which includes palpation of the gland by a doctor to determine its size and condition;
- transrectal ultrasound examination of the prostate - in other words, an ultrasound performed by a special sensor through the rectum;
- study of the secret of the prostate, smear from urethra on leukocytes and the presence of pathogenic bacteria in microflora;
- study of ejaculate;
- general urine analysis - first of all, for leukocytes, protein and contained bacteria;
- cytological and bacteriological examination of urine;
- identifying the level of the dog - a special protein produced by prostate cells;
- Urodynamic examination - in difficult cases, for a more accurate diagnosis;
- Cistoscopy - is used according to strict indications, mainly for injuries and before surgical intervention.
The need to use specific diagnostic methods is determined by a doctor, and the list can significantly decrease or, conversely, increase.The most important thing is to accurately and timely identify the presence of the disease and determine how to cure prostatitis.
Methods of treatment of prostatitis
Modern methods of treating prostatitis in men are very diverse and depend on the degree and type of disease, the presence of complications, its prescription, and on the characteristics of the patient's body.
The procedures are carried out on an outpatient basis in the hospital - the method depends on the specific situation, on the well -being of the patient.You should contact a specialist-urologist and preferably in the clinic, where you can first undergo diagnostics and take the necessary tests, and then, according to the results, you will be prescribed the corresponding course.It should be remembered that the disease can only be defeated with an integrated approach to treatment, it is impossible to neglect any advice of the doctor.
Drug therapy
Medication treatment of prostatitis includes: taking antibiotics, non-healing drugs and alpha blockers.Antibiotics are used mainly as a method of treating bacterial prostatitis.Most often, doctors prescribe drugs that have existing substances such as ciprofloxacin, penicillin.Alpha-blockers are prescribed in chronic cases of the disease as an anesthetic and removing edema of the prostate, non-steroidal agents are used for acute forms of inflammation.
Note
It is important to remember that drugs should be prescribed only by a urologist, an independent choice of drugs and self -medication can not only not alleviate the condition, but also aggravate the course of the disease.
Surgical intervention
For a long time, surgical manipulations have been prescribed for the treatment of prostatitis, but they have mixed results, so recently the popularity of radical methods is not so high.
Transuretral prostate resection (Tour)
It consists in removing part of the tissue of the prostate or the entire prostate completely in order to weaken the pressure on the urethra.The result of the operation is to get rid of the symptoms of inflammation - pain.It is produced in the so -called “closed” way - using a special apparatus, which reduces the risk of complications.
Prostatectomy
“Open” intervention is the method of removal of the gland using ordinary surgical instruments.It has a longer rehabilitation period compared to the tour, but in some cases it is the only possible method.Leads to complete impotence of the patient.
Non -surgical treatment methods
In recent years, minimally invasive methods of treating prostatitis in men are gaining great popularity - as the most effective and at the same time not too painful.
- Thermal methods, the most common of which is microwave thermotherapy.Reducing the prostate is achieved by the effects of high temperatures.
- Ultrasound- One of the most effective methods of therapy.It consists in the effects of ultrasound waves directly on the prostate gland.The advantages of this technique are not only in positive treatment results, but in the convenience and lack of pain for the patient.
- CryodestructionIt implies the removal of inflamed tissue using liquid nitrogen.
- Laser methodsShow for the treatment of chronic prostatitis.When they are used, coagulation and evaporation of water from prostate tissue occurs.Also, the laser effect enhances the body's protective functions and promotes tissue renewal.
- Magnetic laser induction therapy- This is a complex effect of a magnet and laser, which has a beneficial effect on blood circulation, helps to accelerate the healing process of damaged tissues, has an analgesic effect.In addition, this method enhances the effect of drugs.
- Bound dilation of the urethra.When using this method, a mechanical expansion of the urethra by introducing a special catheter with a spray can at the end, which is inflated.
- StentingProstatic urethra also involves the expansion of the walls of the urethra, but already by introducing a stent - a cylindrical frame of polymeric materials.It can be appointed coupled with the previous method.
- MassageIt is prescribed along with other methods of treatment and can significantly enhance their effect.
- Methods of traditional Chinese medicine, in particular, reflex therapy is the effect on the biologically active points of the patient’s body with needles, warmth and other physical factors.The proven effect of reflexology is the restoration of the balance of the endocrine system, improvement of the central nervous system, normalization of blood flow and metabolic processes, elimination of neuralgic pain, and obstruction of inflammatory processes.Like massage, you can use in combination with other methods.
As you know, men are often negligent of their health and especially avoid visiting a clinic with such a scrupulous problem as urological diseases.However, it is better to consult a doctor and get rid of the disease in the early stages than to fight its consequences later.
